Through educational cooking classes that included information on nutrition and food budgeting, we focused on food insecurity as a social determinant of health, given that many of our community partner's clients experience food insecurity. Food insecurity is a risk factor for chronic health conditions. We additionally addressed language barriers in immigrant communities through the use of translators during our sessions, due to the disproportionate impact of food insecurity on these groups, who are also more likely to utilize The Healing Center
