The Department of Medical Education is academic home to a cadre of educators with either primary or secondary appointments, who have demonstrated commitment and expertise in medical education in areas such as curriculum design, teaching skills, research in medical education, simulation, assessment and evaluation.
The department strives to promote excellence in academics by building a dynamic and diverse learning community, delivering the education mission, facilitating educational scholarship and enhancing the curriculum by supporting, recognizing and rewarding outstanding educators. Among the goals for our department are to develop, implement and assess innovation in medical education, offer faculty development and growth opportunities for medical educators, and share expertise in curriculum design, teaching innovation and evaluation strategies with the entire College of Medicine community.
The Department's faculty includes those individuals with primary responsibility for the first- and second-year medical school curriculum. All current Course Directors and Co-Directors have primary or secondary appointments in the department.

Members of the department also work closely with the Office of Faculty Affairs & Development by participating in faculty development workshops, course and program design, and promoting the scholarship of teaching and learning.
In addition, the Department of Medical Education includes the Body Donation Program, and faculty responsible for teaching anatomy. These groups of faculty and staff were the founding members of the department as they transitioned from their previous home in the Department of Cancer Biology.
