Individuals have the opportunity to participate in clinical research trials, which are an essential aspect of the development of new and better medications for the treatment of dermatologic disorders. Many report that they participate in clinical trials in order to help others with the same dermatologic conditions, as conducting clinical trials is the only way to bring new treatments/medications to market. There also may be other benefits to participating in clinical trials, including potential improvement of the condition being studied, and financial compensation for study participation, time and travel. Additionally, participants may learn more about their health through regular safety testing and conversations with the study team, which could help to uncover yet undiscovered medical problems. And if the skin disorder does not improve during the study, assistance is provided in obtaining continuing care in a medical setting.
