Mission Statement

The program will provide outstanding education and training to students, residents and fellows; continuing to promote clinical excellence with a commitment to public health issues, and provide a fertile academic and scholastic environment to pursue basic and clinical research.

Vision Statement

Over the next decade, the program will endeavor to establish itself as an internationally recognized center for both academic and clinical excellence in Otolaryngology. We want to be the best “all around” Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery.

History

The Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Department is one of the oldest in the College of Medicine, having had a presence even prior to the merger of the Miami Medical College and the Medical College of Ohio in 1909. Christian R. Holmes, M.D., was recruited to Cincinnati following the First World War and established a tradition of excellence in our specialty that was felt nationally. He was a founding member of the Triologic Society, the only professional organization within the specialty requiring a thesis for admission. Presently the department is one of several academic programs nationally strongly encouraging all faculty members to submit theses. Today, members of the department serve in leadership positions locally and nationally and the department enjoys a strong national recognition for its scholarship and clinical work.
