The Division of Otology/Neurotology in the Department of Otolaryngology at UC Health has a long storied history and tradition of excellence. For almost 3 decades, the division has been cutting-edge in neurotologic/skull base procedures. In conjunction with the Department of Neurosurgery / Mayfield Clinic, the program has developed novel techniques in the surgical resection of complex tumors of the skullbase. Over 3000 cases have been performed in the last 30 years. In addition, the division has had numerous clinical trials in the field of cochlear implantation, including the Hybrid device, a unique device that preserves hearing, allowing improved hearing in noisy environments and better music appreciation. The division is also one of approximately 15 centers in the country that performs auditory brainstem implantation (ABI) for patients with NF-2, a debilitating inherited disease that causes bilateral profound deafness due to acoustic neuromas. The division also has one of only 15 accredited neurotology fellowships in the country. It attracts people from around the world for clinical training and research endeavors.
