The Breast Imaging section at UC has a long and rich foundation. It was one of the first dedicated breast imaging centers established in the United States. Building on the pioneering screening program established by Dr. Myron Moskowitz in the 1960s, we have evolved into a comprehensive state of the art center for the detection and diagnosis of breast disease.
As part of a multidisciplinary team of breast specialists, we are committed to the diagnosis and management of breast cancer. At our two main centers, in Clifton and West Chester, our breast imaging faculty perform all breast imaging related studies and procedures. Our radiologists are dedicated breast imagers with fellowship and specialized breast imaging training.
Clinical subspecialized exams
Breast Imaging is a section of one of the first medical schools in the country. All radiologists are board certified and interpret breast imaging only. Breast Imaging is part of a multidisciplinary team that meets weekly to discuss patients who have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Active community and patient advocates: Our breast radiologists were instrumental in writing and passing state legislation (Ohio House Bill 371) in June 2022 that now requires Ohio insurers and Medicaid to cover 3D mammography for all women and additional screening with breast MRI or breast ultrasound for women with dense breast tissue or increased risk for breast cancer. The new law also improves communication with women who have dense breasts about the associated risk and potential need for supplemental screening exams. Multiple accreditations: The UC Health Barrett Breast Center is the longest-running breast center in our area that has achieved triple accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), and the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers (NQMBC) as a Breast Center of Excellence.
